My father and brother just spotted this one driving around. It is a Mercedes based truck converted by Luigi Colani to some kind of aerodynamic future truck. Colani has a lot more of these futuristic designs, for everything from bikes to trucks if I remembered correctly. I knew NXP used one for promotions, though I didn’t expect it to be touring the Netherlands on a random Saturday morning.

Those wipers btw!!

Nice find!

In moving from the US to the EU all the trucks here are flat at the front.

I’ve got a nice anecdote about that actually, until the fifties the trucks in both the EU and US were similar designs, the usual “torpedo” shape. However once the COE truck was introduced in the US, europeans liked the idea, since this would lead to shorter trucks, which are more usefull in the old narrow city streets. Also adding the benefit of fitting more cargo in the limited train length of around 18 meters. Therefore almost all european trucks are cab overs now, whereas the US prefers the traditional torpedo shape for safety.

Colani can bang on about organic this and natural that. His designs are among the ugliest things ever created.
